But those who actually work on our farms are in reality the first line of a much more diverse workforce that requires skills of many types in roles at all levels. It doesn’t matter whether you want to be a farm manager, a food technologist, a factory manager or a marketing specialist – this is one industry that has opportunities.

British production satisfies much of the nation’s demand for fresh meat, and is increasingly a selling point for ready-meals and cooked meats. We export much of the dark meat we produce and import more of the breast meat that British consumers want. As well as making commercial sense, it reduces the potential for food waste.
