We are delighted to receive a public letter of appreciation to key workers in our sector from the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs George Eustice MP on 26 March. This letters followed our calls to reinforce the critical role of key workers in food production in the face of COVID-19.

We are grateful that the Secretary of State has formally recognised the extraordinary lengths our key workers continue to go to in order to feed the nation during these extraordinary circumstances. From farmers and vets who look after our birds, through butchers and engineers who keep our factories working, to drivers and distributors who put food on every table, it is essential that food supply is prioritised during these difficult times. Food supply cannot stop, neither can our food heroes.

Letter from Geroge Eustice, Defra SoS

We hope that Government continues to support our key workers for their consistent, reliable and dedicated efforts towards putting #FoodOnEveryTable.

“…I want to pay tribute to all those who are working around the clock to keep the nation fed – in our fields, processing plants, factories, wholesalers, stores and takeaways and all of those moving goods around the country and to our homes.”

“Everyone working in the food and drink industry has rallied in an extraordinary way to respond to this unprecedented challenge.”

“…The country is grateful for all that you have done.”
