The UK Poultry Health and Welfare Group (PHWG), formed in 2013, brings together each part of the UK poultry sector engaged in breeding and rearing poultry species for commercial production.

The British Poultry Council (BPC) is an active member of this group along with the British Egg Industry Council, the National Farmers Union, the Game Farmers Association and the British Veterinary Poultry Association.

We act as a unified voice for the UK poultry industry to the devolved governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and to the Animal Health and Welfare Board for England on matters relating to animal health and welfare policy and delivery.

Our aim is for continuous improvement in the national flocks, whilst protecting the health of other poultry and humans, the environment and the wider rural economy.

We held ten Avian Influenza workshops in 2015, following on from the UK outbreaks. These meetings were designed to inform and advise poultry farmers, and we did so with the help of the Animal Plant and Health Agency (APHA).
